Sump pump installation, is something every homeowner who lives anywhere near a high water table, will want to know how to do. Damages from water can create mold and mildew within the walls of the structure. This can make any home totally uninhabitable rather quickly. Your comfort is at stake here.
Taking the time to learn how to do this job yourself, can not only save you from all the possible damages, it can also save you a pile of money. Calling in a professional plumber to do this job can range upwards of a thousand dollars, depending on your location and the extent of the work. This is why so many people decide to tackle this job themselves.
Once you’ve purchased the right size apparatus for your home, you’ll need to spot the lowest point in the basement or room you’re going to protect with the unit. Next we must lower the inlet to keep the water level lower than the floor, so when water does rise, it will never get above the floor in the room.
Sometimes this will require digging a hole to sink the unit deep enough. Once the spot for your piece of mind is ready, set the pump on a solid base. This can either be a base that comes with it, or an area of flat ground that you’ve prepared at the bottom of the hole.
Find the outlet pipe connection and use the proper fitting to adapt to a PVC pipe, or other suitable outlet piping. Install a check valve to keep the water from running back in. Fasten the whole unit upright, so it won’t fall over. Make sure the termination pipe runs to a discharge point far enough from the home. A proper sump pump installation will keep water from coming back in through the foundation.
